A quiet nod to the Mad Hatters who came before us.

The phrase "mad as a hatter" comes from a very real chapter in hatmaking history. During the 18th and 19th centuries, mercury was used in the felting process. Years of breathing mercury vapour left many hatters with tremors, mood changes and neurological damage that earned them an unfortunate reputation.

Thankfully, we've left mercury where it belongs—in the history books.

These days, the only madness in this workshop is entirely intentional.

No mercury. No shortcuts. Just traditional hatmaking, a little imagination, and the occasional delightfully unhinged design. Because life's too short for sensible hats.

Crafted from rich whiskey-coloured 100% rabbit felt, Hopping Mad features a wonky, crumpled top hat crown that looks as though it's stepped straight out of a curious tale. The dramatically wide 8cm brim is finished with a deluxe hand-bound leather edge, complete with a kettle curl and a dip at both the front and back for an unmistakable silhouette.

The layered linen and leather hatband is finished with a leather bow, keeper and solid brass concho, adding just the right amount of character without distracting from the hat itself.

Like every Feather & Drum ready-made hat, this is a genuine one-off. Once it's gone, it's gone.
